The 12 Apostles of the LambWhat is currently unknown about the Who would fill Wikipedia.In truth; the name of the "Who" actually comes from the old cipher of the "Sufi Sound" or "call" which is "Hu"; Hu, Hu Hu (actually). With the Sufi Meher Baba as his guide Peter Townsend wrote a song called "Magic Bus" which was about going to see his beloved guide of the Path everyday; I doubt every day; but often.Through the Who the Sufis were able to transmit and project sufic teaching into the West at a time when it was desperately needed; but the explosive character and dynamic of the band kept Townsend from being able to explain what was really happening; "Can't Explain", you might say.With Tommy the Who were able to take the message of Meher Baba and put it into a different framework that the youth of the West could comprehend; and that is where our "pinball wizard" comes in.
As I discussed with Chris Chappel in 1980 in London where I was staying down the street from Nomis Sound Studio's in Sheperd's Bush; which is the Who's old stomping grounds by the way; I am one of Nik Cohn's best friends; because for years his book was my bible "Rock: from the Beginning"; which was and is a masterpiece; a book which really did "lay it down". Chris Chappel was the manager at the time I was trying to interview Peter from my book which I was starting to write; but I wanted Peter to do the introduction.

Nik Cohn had taken Peter's ideas but given them a contemporary context; this was way before the context of the Grail and the Wasteland Peter used when "Camelot" fell and our Generation with it: but not entirely. At Eel Pie I sent a postcard to Peter and left London after talking to Chris but not getting to see Peter. The names of Peter and Paul; and John Lennon and M. Phillip (Jagger) and James (Marshall Hendrix) did not know it: but they had been called to a Table that went back a long way: to the Last Supper; and Peter started to see that Peter the disciple and later head Apostle was in charge of his people: they were "My Generation" because, as the Master had once said: this Generation shall not pass until all is fulfilled". Little did Peter know what that "Empty Glass" would cost him emotionally.
